Born: 29 May 1874, Kensington, London, England
Died: 14 June 1936, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, England

Raised at London, Chesterton was educated at St Paul's School. While he studied to be an illustrator at the Slade School of Art he took literature classes at University College London but didn't complete a degree at either. He worked in a publishing house until 1902 while developing freelance markets for art and literary criticism. He married Frances Blogg in 1901. Raised as an Anglican, he drifted away from his faith, becoming fascinated with the occult and experimenting with Ouija boards. As an adult he returned to orthodox Christian theology, first returning to his Anglican roots and converting to Roman Catholicism in 1922, adding significant Christian biographies to the 75 books and hundreds of essays, reviews, and short stories that he had written. His work appeared in at least 125 different publications, not counting appearing an just about every collection of quotes.
