Benjamin Franklin, 1706 - 1790

Portrait by Joseph Siffred Duplessis

Born: 17 January 1706, Boston, Massachusetts
Died: 17 August 1790, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
At various times Franklin was a scientist, an inventor, a statesman, a printer, a philosopher, a musician, an economist, and a flyer of kites. He even came up with the idea that became Daylight Saving Time, but those who point this out generally fail to mention that it was a joke. Not only were his letters and longer works often a source, he actually spent a fair amount of time writing short bits for his Poor Richard's Almanac, so quote collectors didn't even have to go looking for the good parts.
