Robert Leo Byrne

Born: 22 May 1930, Dubuque, Iowa
Byrne eared a degree in civil engineering at the University of Colorado in 1954 and moved to the San Francisco area where he edited a construction-industry magazine before becoming a full-time writer in 1977. He apparently got good with a cue stick on the way to writing seven books on billiards and pool. (He did not, however, get involved with chess; that's Robert Eugene Byrne, Grandmaster and long-time chess columnist for the New York Times.) He also got hooked on quotations and has edited several well-known collections, not to mention seven novels and an exposé of literary frauds. Byrne lives with his wife Cindy, back in his home town of Dubuque.
