Zsa Zsa Gabor

Studio publicity still (1955)
Born: 6 February 1917, Budapest, Austro-Hungarian Empire
Born Gábore S´ri, on arrival in the US she adopted Western name order and changed her name to Zsa Zsa. Her current legal name is S´ri Prinzessin von Anhalt. Educated at Madame Subilia's, a Swiss boarding school. She competed in the 1936 Miss Hungary contest, which she claims to have won although her mother's biography says she was disqualified as underage. She made her first stage appearance at Vienna that year. It's unclear exactly when she came to the US but she had her first film role in 1952, the same year of her only starring role, opposite José Ferrer in Moulin Rouge. IMDB lists 65 movie roles and appearances on 108 TV shows from 1950 to 1997. She has married nine times, divorcing seven times, once annulled; she has been married to Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt from August 1986 to date. The von Anhalt claim to royalty, which makes her a Duchess of Saxony, is flimsy; it apparently stems from her father-in-law paying a substantial sum to a princess in exchange for the princess adopting his son, Gabor's current husband. Other than her one substantial film role, Gabor has gone about developing the art of being rich and famous on the basis of being rich and famous. She bought a home at Bel Air, California from Elvis Presley in 1974, originally built by Howard Hughes. In 1989 she was arrested for slapping a traffic cop, spent three days in jail and performed 180 hours of community service. In 2002 she was a passenger in a car driven by her hair dresser when it hit a light pole, she was hospitalized for several weeks and sued the driver. In 2009 it was reported that she lost $10 million invested with Bernard Madoff; one of her adopted sons, German brothel owner Marcus Prinz von Anhalt, gave her $6 million.
