Born: 27 October 1950, Morristown, New Jersey
After being expelled from high school for "surliness", Lebowitz worked various odd jobs (including writing pornography on contract and driving a taxi) and sold ads for a small magazine before Andy Warhol hired here as a columnist for Interview. She also wrote for Mademoiselle before publishing a collection of essays titled Metropolitan Life in 1978 and Social Studies in 1981. She has appeared in the character of Judge Janice Goldberg on the television drama Law & Order. Her commentaries on American life, predicated on living at New York City all of her adult life, are comparable to those of Dorothy Parker.

Fran Lebowitz - "Manners" Metropolitan Life (1974) - All God's children are not beautiful. Most of God's children are, in fact, barely presentable. The most common error made in matters of appearance is the belief that one should disdain the superficial and let the true beauty of one's soul shine through. If there are places on your body where this is a possibility, you are not attractive — you are leaking. permalink
