"Something like a novelist" charicature by Frederick Waddy (1873)

Born: 8 June 1814, Ipsden, Oxfordshire, England, UK
Died: 11 April 1884, London, England, UK

Studied at Magdalen College, Oxford, earned his B.A. in 1835 and became a fellow of the college. He was later dean of arts and vice-president, retaining his fellowship although he lived most of his life at London. He considered himself a dramatist and later wrote a number of "Matter-of-Fact" novels, stories largely assembled from newspaper stories he clipped and saved for the purpose. His novels were popular, but not well-received critically, and he was several times accused of plagiarism.
