Quotes of the Day for 17 June 2012 – Father's Day
Today is observed as Father's Day in the United States. About fifty other countries join us, and another forty nations observe the custom but on other dates. I miss my father. Sometimes I wonder if I was a good father myself, or if my daughter is turning out well despite my influence. I do hope the day brings you either good times or good memories.

The quotes:
The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother.
- Theodore Hesburgh
Nothing I've ever done has given me more joys and rewards than being a father to my children.
- Bill Cosby
My father died very suddenly at sixty-three. Just dropped dead. For a long time afterward, I'd ask myself, Why didn't I ask him to play golf more? Why didn't I spend more time with him? But when you're off trying to get the brass ring, you forget and overlook those little things.
- Clint Eastwood
My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me.
- Jim Valvano, 1946 - 1993
The thing to remember about fathers is, they're men. A girl has to keep it in mind: They are dragon-seekers, bent on improbable rescues. Scratch any father, you find someone chock-full of qualms and romantic terrors, believing change is a threat — like your first shoes with heels on, like your first bicycle it took such months to get.
- Phyllis McGinley, 1905 - 1978
The words that a father speaks to his children in the privacy of home are not heard by the world, but, as in whispering galleries, they are clearly heard at the end, and by posterity.
- Jean Paul, 1763 - 1825
Up until I became a father, it was all about self-obsession. But then I learned exactly what it's all about: the delight of being a servant.
- Eric Clapton
