Quotes of the Day for 4 November 2010 – Eden Phillpotts
Eden Phillpotts was born at Mount Aboo in the province of Rajputana in the British Indian Empire. At age five his father, then a captain in the army, was killed; his mother moved her three sons back to England. Eden attended Mannamead College at Plymouth and spent holidays exploring Dartmoor. After graduating he moved to London and spent ten years as an insurance clerk, then took acting lessons but discovered his real talent lay in writing. He wrote several mysteries under his own name and as Harrington Hext, but is mainly known for his "Dartmoor Cycle", a series of eighteen novels set in the moors he loved.
