Ebenezer Butterick was born at Sterling, Massachusetts on this day in 1826. With his wife Ellen he developed printed dress patterns that could be cut for different dress sizes, first selling them to home sewers in 1863. One way or another, we all create or follow patterns; some of us tend to cut a little further from the lines than others.
