Quotes of the Day for 10 March 2004 – Kick
Carlos Ray Norris, Jr was born at Ryan, Oklahoma on this day in 1940. He moved to California at age 12 with his mother and brothers, graduated from high school, married, and joined the Air Force. In the service he started learning the martial arts, eventually earning black belts in two (Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwon Do) and practicing several others. He met Bruce Lee at a demonstration in 1964, Lee talked the young veteran into pursuing an acting career. Adopting the name Chuck Norris, it turned out pretty well, culminating in an eight-year run as "Walker, Texas Ranger" for CBS. Larkin and I loved Walker, it was classic melodrama. The good guys were good, the bad guys were bad, and every episode had a happy ending (although some took two shows to get there). But if Walker never kicked anyone when they were down, you could depend on him kicking every bad guy as many times as it took to get him to go down and stay down.

- Sam Rayburn, 1882 - 1961
