Quotes of the Day for 7 March 2004 – Subversives

The quotes:
In a culture whose fundamental premise is that Paradise is permanently lost, the most subversive, dangerous, and revolutionary of all principles lies in the simple statement, 'I have everything I need.'
- Don Berry
Here in America we are descended in blood and in spirit from revolutionists and rebels - men and women who dare to dissent from accepted doctrine. As their heirs, may we never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion.
- Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1890 - 1969

- Erica Jong
Men in authority will always think that criticism of their policies is dangerous. They will always equate their policies with patriotism, and find criticism subversive.
- Henry Steele Commager, 1902 - 1998
Restriction of free thought and free speech is the most dangerous of all subversions. It is the one un-American act that could most easily defeat us.
- William O. Douglas, 1898 - 1980
