Quotes of the Day for 2 August 2003 – Grass
This spring I let the grass in my yard get completely out of control; the alternation of sun and rain makes it hard to keep up when there is real work to be done. There were some clumps in the back that, I kid you not, were so tall that I could not reach the top. So I've been playing catch-up with mower, weed-whacker, and many trips of the wheel barrow. Since it's on my mind, today's theme is Grass.
If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has power to move you, if the simple things of nature have a message that you understand, rejoice, for your soul is alive.
- Eleonora Duse
The moment one gives close attention to any thing, even a blade of grass it becomes a mysterious, awesome, indescribably magnificent world in itself.
- Henry Miller, 1891 - 1980
In the world's audience hall, the simple blade of grass sits on the same carpet with the sunbeams, and the stars of midnight.
- Rabindranath Tagore, 1861 - 1941
The tallest blade of grass is the first to be cut by the scythe.
- Russian proverb
Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.
- Sir John Lubbock
If the grass is greener in the other fellow's yard - let him worry about cutting it.
- Fred Allen, 1894 - 1956
