Quotes of the Day for 10 May 2003 – Stamp Out Hunger
In the US, today is the eleventh annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food collection, a campaign that collected a staggering 63 million pounds of food last year. Organized by your mailman (well, his union, the National Association of Letter Carriers) with the cooperation of the postal service, nonperishable items will be picked up wherever mail is delivered. There were already plastic bags of food items hanging from mailboxes on our street this afternoon, and though ours isn't out there yet, it's ready to go for the morning. It's an easy way to make a difference. If you aren't in the US, remember that the food banks need donations all year, not just at Thanksgiving and Christmas, so making an extra contribution now will be appreciated.

There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread.
- Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, 1869 - 1948

- Mother Teresa, 1910 - 1997

- Thomas Jefferson, 1743 - 1826
