Quotes of the Day for 24 January 2003 – Hidden
Sergeant Shoichi Yokoi of the Japanese Imperial Army was discovered hiding in a cave near Guam's Talofofo River on this day in 1972, 28 years after the end of the war. A tailor's apprentice before being drafted, Yokoi clothed himself in cloth woven from fibers of the wild hibiscus. He subsisted on a diet of coconuts, breadfruit, papayas, snails, eels and rats. (Snails without butter and garlic? There's a tragedy!) Today's quotes are on things hidden.
