Quotes of the Day for 27 December 2002 – Marlene

Marie Magdalene Dietrich was born at Schöneberg, Germany on this day in 1901. As a teenager, the shy girl known as a "little grey mouse" was a skilled violinist. After school, she contracted her names to Marlene and went to Berlin where she sang in cabarets and soon became a star.

The quotes:

In America sex is an obsession, in other parts of the world it is a fact.

Latins are tenderly enthusiastic. In Brazil they throw flowers at you. In Argentina they throw themselves.

I love quotations because it is a joy to find thoughts one might have, beautifully expressed with much authority by someone recognized wiser than oneself.

It's the friends you can call up at 4 a.m. that matter.
