Quotes of the Day for 17 November 2002 – Inspiration

There haven't been any quotes for the last few days, and some of you have wondered if their subscriptions were somehow dropped or if I was ill. No, the problem was inspiration; more precisely, the lack thereof. It almost continued today. Looking over this day in history, nothing moves me. Sure, it's Gordon Lightfoot's 64th birthday and I can sing "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" along with the radio with gusto, but where's the theme in that? Absent any inspiration, and not wanting to deprive you of quotes for another day, I'll just use Inspiration itself as my theme.

The quotes:

We get new ideas from God every hour of our day when we put our trust in Him - but we have to follow that inspiration up with perspiration - we have to work to prove our faith. Remember that the bee that hangs around the hive never gets any honey.
     - Albert E. Cliffe

When I'm inspired, I get excited because I can't wait to see what I'll come up with next.
     - Dolly Parton

The great composer does not set to work because he is inspired, but becomes inspired because he is working.
     - Ernest Newman

Motivation is everything. You can do the work of two people, but you can't be two people. Instead, you have to inspire the next guy down the line and get him to inspire his people.
     - Lee Iacocca

Far away in the sunshine are my highest inspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see the beauty, believe in them and try to follow where they lead.
     - Louisa May Alcott

A deadline is negative inspiration. Still, it's better than no inspiration at all.
     - Rita Mae Brown
