Quotes of the Day for 8 September 2002 – Art

The quotes I've chosen today were supposed to be for yesterday, but I fell behind. Yesterday was the birthday of two powerful American painters. Anna Mary Robertson "Grandma" Moses was born in upstate New York on 7 September 1860, and Jacob Lawrence was born at Atlantic City, New Jersey on the same date in 1917. Both were dramatic colorists with primitive, yet evocative, styles. It seemed the right time to choose quotes on Art, but I couldn't keep my eyes open long enough to narrow it down to a reasonable number.
