Quotes of the Day for 19 April 2002 – Battle
What Paul Revere was warning of last night, specifically British troop warnings, lead to the battles at Lexington and Concord today. Actually, today was an extraordinarily bloody day ever since then. There were the Baltimore Riots of 1861. The Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto struck back against the Nazis on this day in 1943. The FBI attacked the Branch Davidian compound at Waco, Texas in 1993, and finally, in 1995 the bombing in Oklahoma City. I promise, we'll have a more uplifting topic tomorrow.
A nation is not worthy to be saved if, in the hour of its fate, it will not gather up all its jewels of manhood and life, and go down into the conflict, however bloody and doubtful, resolved on measureless ruin or complete success.
- James A. Garfield
Carry the battle to them. Don't let them bring it to you. Put them on the defensive. And don't ever apologize for anything.
- Harry S Truman
One battle would do more towards a Declaration of Independence than a long chain of conclusive arguments in a provincial convention or the Continental Congress.
- Samuel Adams, 1722 - 1803
Pick battles big enough to matter, small enough to win.
- Jonathan Kozol
No one ever goes into battle thinking God is on the other side.
- Terry Goodkind
