Quotes of the Day for 9 April 2002 – Nudity

Hugh Marston Heffner was born at Chicago on this day in 1926. He later built a fortune, and had a great time, selling pictures of nude women. I'm not sure his contributions to society were entirely positive, but he gave hope to generations of adolescent boys. And there really were some good articles in Playboy!

The quotes:

Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.
     - Mark Twain

If you use your imagination, you can look at any actress and see her nude. I hope to make you use your imagination.
     - Hedy Lamarr

To see you naked is to recall the Earth.
     - Federico Garcia Lorca

We are ashamed of everything that is real about us; ashamed of ourselves, of our relatives, of our incomes, of our accents, of our opinions, of our experience, just as we are ashamed of our naked skins.
     - George Bernard Shaw, Man and Superman

Full nakedness!
All joyes are due to thee,
As souls unbodied,
Bodies uncloth'd must be
To taste whole joyes.
     - John Donne, Elegie XIX
