Quotes of the Day for 17 March 2002 – St Patrick's Day

Today is Saint Patrick's Day, celebrated (at least around here) with kids pinching those who forgot to wear green, absurd stories of snakes driven into the sea, and a lot of newly green beer being consumed. (I can't bring myself to drinking green beer, but I did pick up a four-pack of Guiness for the occasion.) Anyway, here are some vaguely-related quotes for the day.

The quotes:

I showed my appreciation of my native land in the usual Irish way by getting out of it as soon as I possibly could.
     - George Bernard Shaw, 1856 - 1950

Latet anguis in herba. (There's a snake hidden in the grass.)
     - Virgil, 70 - 19 BC

A good laugh and a long sleep are the best cures in the doctor's book.
     - Irish proverb

I like to keep a bottle of stimulant handy in case I see a snake, which I also keep handy.
     - W. C. Fields, 1880 - 1946

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
the rains fall soft upon your fields
and, until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
     - Irish Blessing
