Quotes of the Day for 22 November 2001 – Thanksgiving

Today is Thanksgiving Day here in the US. I'll spend my day cooking and then eating too much, sharing it with a small crowd of my family. (My sister in law is bringing her special cranberry sauce that is nothing like what Mr Cooke decries in his entry today!) I'm thankful for health, friends, family, the wonderful language in which these quotes are recorded, and the magic that lets me share them with you. May this day bring you peace.

The quotes:

Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation.
     - Brian Tracy

Sometimes our light goes out but is blown into flame by another human being. Each of us owes deepest thanks to those who have rekindled this light.
     - Albert Schweitzer, 1875 - 1965

I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought, and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.
     - G. K. Chesterton

Best of all is it to preserve everything in a pure, still heart, and let there be for every pulse a thanksgiving, and for every breath a song.
     - Konrad von Gesner

It has been an unchallengeable American doctrine that cranberry sauce, a pink goo with overtones of sugared tomatoes, is a delectable necessity of the Thanksgiving board and that turkey is uneatable without it.
     - Alistair Cooke
