Quotes of the Day for 14 September 2001 – Honor
Today has been declared as an official day to honor the victims and heroes of 11 September's attacks, at least in the US and UK and possibly other countries as well. We honor the memory of those who lost their lives, were wounded, or responded to help the wounded. Our quotes today are especially in memory of the passengers of two flights who may have acted to minimize the losses on the ground, and for the emergency personnel killed in the collapse of the buildings.
In the arena of human life the honors and rewards fall to those who show their good qualities in action.
A man has honor if he holds himself to an ideal of conduct though it is inconvenient, unprofitable or dangerous to do so.
- Walter Lippmann
I believe it is the nature of people to be heroes, given the chance.
- James A. Autry
Being a hero is about the shortest-lived profession on earth.
- Will Rogers
No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave.
- John Calvin Coolidge, 1872 - 1933
