Quotes of the Day for 7 September 2001 – Heart

Michael E. DeBakey was born on this day in 1908 at Lake Charles, Louisiana. In 1932 he developed the pump that made the heart-lung machine possible, and has been a pioneer in heart surgery and implant technology ever since. Dr DeBakey has performed over 60,000 surgeries, a third of which he estimates involved touching someone's Heart in a way the rest of us cannot.
