Quotes of the Day for 29 July 2001 – Dag Hammarskjöld

The Swedish economist and diplomat Dag Hjalmar Agne Carl Hammarskjöld was born on this day in 1905. His active career was capped by his unanimous election as Secretary General of the United Nations in 1953, and the even more amazing unanimous reelection. Hammarskjold campaigned vigorously for peace in that post until his death in a 1961 airplane accident while negotiating peace in the Congo. In his honor, here are some quotes on peace.
