Quotes of the Day for 22 March 2001 – Water
Today is World Day for Water and for various reasons I can't pass that up. Living on an island in a region known for it's rain is part of it, the current shortages of water (and therefore electricity) in the western US makes the subject more timely. Here are some quotes on water.
Be like the promontory against which the waves continually break, but it stands firm and tames the fury of the water around it.
- Marcus Aurelius, Meditations
The cure for anything is salt water-sweat, tears, or the sea.
- Isak Dinesen
Upon those who step into the same rivers different and ever different waters flow down.
- Heraclitus of Ephesus
Balance is the perfect state of still water. Let that be our model. It remains quiet within and is not disturbed on the surface.
It's a strange world of language in which skating on thin ice can get you into hot water.
- Franklin P. Jones
