Erma Bombeck was born on this day in 1927 at Dayton, Ohio. After college she wrote for the local paper, the Journal-Herald, then giving up writing for motherhood. She returned in 1963 because, "I was too old for a paper route, too young for social security, and too tired for an affair." She delighted millions of readers of her books and columns until her death on 22 April 1996.
