Quotes of the Day for 24 October 2000 – United Nations Day

The Charter of the United Nations was adopted on this day in 1945, and today is United Nations Day. Many arguments have been made about the contributions of the organization, which is not really my concern today, but I do have a few quotes on the subject of nations that may illuminate the general problem.
