Quotes of the Day for 16 October 2000 – Mountains

Yesterday's crisp clear air of an Autumn afternoon let me see a Mountain, it happened to be Mount Rainier, capped in snow and capped again in cloud. The shorter days and interminable drizzle of the months ahead will make that less frequent, so I grabbed it as my theme for today's quotes.

The quotes:

The mountain remains unmoved at seeming defeat by the mist.
     - Sir Rabindranath Tagore

The only Zen you find on the tops of mountains is the Zen you bring up there.
     - Robert M. Pirsig

The thing that I still come back away with is how close so many people feel to the mountain [Mount Rainier] emotionally and psychically, and yet how far away the world is when you're on the mountain.
     - Bruce Barcott

You never conquer a mountain. You stand on the summit a few moments; then the wind blows your footprints away.
     - Arlene Blum
