On this day in 1933 the "United States Disciplinary Barracks" was turned over to the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Located on an island in San Francisco Bay, we know it as Alcatraz. Searching the database for "prison" turned up something completely different: for most of us it isn't walls that make a Prison.
