Quotes of the Day for 16 August 2000 – Retreat
I've been running around in circles, making a mess, spinning my wheels - it's time for another direction: Retreat. I'm off to a liturgical art center high in the Cascades, where the community is caring, I'll shoot some pictures, fire some pottery, and when the phone rings it won't be for me. I was all set to take the laptop and get the mail out from the mountains, but I wasn't entirely unhappy when I found that it wouldn't come on. So, no quotes until Monday, but I threw in a couple of extras today.

- Carl Sandburg
Nature is an infinite sphere whose center is everywhere and whose circumference is nowhere.
- Blaise Pascal
Men seek out retreats for themselves in the country, by the seaside, on the moutains... But all this is unphilosophical to the last degree... when thou canst at a moment's notice retire into thyself.
- Marcus Aelius Aurelius
Honorable retreats are no ways inferior to brave charges, as having less fortune, more of discipline, and as much valor.
- Major General Sir William Napier
All paths lead nowhere, follow the path with heart.
- Carlos Castaneda
It gets you nowhere if the other person's tail is only just in sight for the second half of the conversation.
- Alan Alexander Milne
