Quotes of the Day for 21 July 2000 – Encouragement

I had lunch yesterday with a small group that included two women I've worked with on and off for over twenty years. One wanted to honor the other because of one of life's milestones, and invited a few of us who had been involved over the years. Some of the stories reminded me how much each of us in that group owed to the Encouragement we received from the others, and how proud I was for encouraging them at times.

The quotes:

If television encouraged us to work as much as it encourages us to do everything else, we could better afford to buy more of everything it advertises.
     - Cullen Hightower

There is no such thing as a 'self-made' man. We are made up of thousands of others. Everyone who has ever done a kind deed for us, or spoken one word of encouragement to us, has entered into the make-up of our character and of our thoughts.
     - George Matthew Adams

Those who are lifting the world upward and onward are those who encourage more than criticize.
     - Elizabeth Harrison

Note how good you feel after you have encouraged someone else. No other argument is necessary to suggest that you should never miss the opportunity to give encouragement.
     - George Adams
