Quotes of the Day for 19 July 2000 – Love

Carlene wrote "I am making a scrapbook for my boyfriend and I was wondering if you were willing to make one of the quote days on Love." This isn't American Top 40 and I'm not Casey Kasem, but despite my calloused demeanor and cynical outlook on most things, I'm a sucker for romance. I've been careful to keep all the bitter edges out of this selection, no matter how much the George Bernard Shaw and Ambrose Bierce quotes appealed to me, because this one's for Carlene.

The quotes:

There are two sorts of constancy in love; the one comes from the constant discovery in our beloved of new grounds for love, and the other from making it a point of honor to be constant.
     - La Rochefoucauld

Among those whom I like or admire, I can find no common denominator, but among those whom I love, I can: All of them make me laugh.
     - W. H. Auden

Love has reasons that reason knows not.
     - St. Augustine

Age does not protect you from love. But love, to some extent, protects you from age.
     - Jeanne Moreau
