Douglas Corrigan flew nonstop from California to New York in a dilapidated Curtis Robin, then filed a flight plan for Ireland. Aviation authorities turned him down. So, on this day in 1938, he took off to return to California and somehow ended up turned around in the first cloud he came to, happily arriving in Ireland of all places. Nobody believed his story and he lost his license for a time, but "Wrong-Way" Corrigan was a hero in New York when he returned. Here are some thoughts on Direction.
