George Bryan Brummel, the English dandy better known as Beau, lived only to be graceful, stylish, and witty. Born on this day in 1778, he set the fashions in British society for some time, possibly inventing the necktie. I, on the other hand, generally attempt only to be decently covered in simple clothes and don't take the subject seriously at all. To mark the day, here are some caustic comments on fashion.
