The "Penny Black" was introduced in England on this day in 1840. It was the first time mail would be delivered for a standard price, and the first time the postage was paid by the sender. On this day in 1873, the first printed post card was issued in the US. So I went hunting for quotes on mail, letters, and postage stamps.
