Your Quotes for 29 October 2005 - Hair

Hair, the American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, opened at New York City's Public Theater on this evening in 1967. Joseph Papp, known for producing Shakespeare in Central Park, had just converted a library into a theatre and chose Hair for the first six-week run. It was the first production ever to move from off-Broadway to Broadway, and probably the first musical ever to include full cast nudity. (I saw Hair at London and the music was so intense at the end of the first act that I actually didn't notice the cast had shed their clothes.) When it went on the road, new "tribes" were formed in several different cities, although the Seattle tribe did take their production to several cities. It's still easy to recall, and hum, several of the songs.

     - Chinese proverb

     - Cindy Crawford

When others kid me about being bald, I simply tell them that the way I figure it, the good Lord only gave men so many hormones, and if others want to waste theirs on growing hair, that's up to them.
     - John Glenn

My concern today is not with the length of a person's hair but with his conduct.
     - Richard M. Nixon, 1913 - 1994

     - William Shakespeare, 1564 - 1616
