Your Quotes for 27 October 2005 - Sitting

Rosa Parks died at her Detroit, Michigan home on Monday of this week at 92. We are traditionally told that, to effect change, we need to stand up for something. Fifty years ago this tired seamstress kept her seat and changed the world. Ordered to give up her seat so a white man could take it, she refused. Her arrest became the focus of a bus boycott that lasted over a year and propelled Dr Martin Luther King, Jr into prominence. Parks and King prevailed and all public transportation was desegregated, but Parks had to leave Montgomery a year later to avoid death threats. Thanks, Rosa, for taking a sit.
