On this day in 1956, guest singer Dorothy Collins made her appearance on NBC's The Jonathan Winters show by videotape. It was a test to see if anyone would notice a difference in quality, and Ampex's brand new VRX-1000 tape recorder was soon in regular use. On this day in 1973, President Richard Nixon agreed to turn over the tapes from the Oval Office recorders to investigators.
