Issues Index | Next => Euripides was born on the Greek island Salamís on this day in 484 BC. (This is one of those where the date is known and the year uncertain, some sources say 480 BC.) He spent most of his life at Athens and was one of the three great tragic dramatists of ancient Greece. As little is known of his life, beyond his 92 plays, I'll say no more and leave room for a couple extra of his quotes.
A bad beginning makes a bad ending. Chance fights ever on the side of the prudent. Judge a tree from its fruit; not from the leaves. Talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish. The good and the wise lead quiet lives. Time will explain it all. He is a talker, and needs no questioning before he speaks. Waste not fresh tears over old griefs. Who dares not speak his free thoughts is a slave. Would you like to see quotes like these in your mail tomorrow morning?
