Eugene Curran Kelly was born at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on this day in 1912. In 1938 he started on Broadway, was cast as the lead in "Pal Joey" in 1940, and by 1942 had moved on to Hollywood. Not only was the athletic Kelly a stunning dancer, he also was normally the choreographer and often designed the camera work. When I think of Kelly, I think of "Singing in the Rain," an amazing demonstration of his talent. He has been called the "working man's Fred Astaire", I don't think he would have minded that.
