He went back to high school and studied saxophone and clarinet, so when the next war came along he enlisted in the Coast Guard and led one of their district bands. When fronting one of his big bands, he sang through a megaphone. On this day in 1933 the very first singing telegram was delivered, to none other than Rudy Vallee. With those two events on the calendar, today's theme was obvious.
Everyone sings the song of life off-key every once in a while. I don't need to be recognized with presents. I just wanna go onstage and sing my song. You don't get harmony when everybody sings the same note. God respects me when I work, but He loves me when I sing. For me, singing sad songs often has a way of healing a situation. It gets the hurt out in the open - into the light, out of the darkness. I wish life were more like a musical, so when I burst into song at the bus stop, people would stop staring at me. It might also make them more inclined to learn the chorus and the dance numbers. Would you like to see quotes like these in your mail tomorrow morning?
