Gilbert Keith Chesterton was born at London on this day in 1874. While he studied at University College and the Slade School of Art he had a period of depression and lack of faith, becoming fascinated with a Ouija board and diabolism. He also lost interest in art and began writing. He eventually returned to his Anglican roots and later converted to Roman Catholicism, adding significant Christian biographies to the 75 books and hundreds of essays, reviews, and short stories that he had written. His work appeared in at least 125 different publications, not counting appearing an just about every collection of quotes.
