Issues Index | Next => "Get your head together" and "don't lose your head" represent good advice - your head is pretty important. I was reminded of this today when I saw that it was on this day in 1536 that Anne Boleyn, second wife to King Henry VIII, lost hers.
In life you are given two ends, one to think with and the other to sit on. Your success in life depends on which end you use most. Heads you win, tails you lose. A thick head can do as much damage as a hard heart. Never bend your head. Hold it high. Look the world straight in the eye. Life does not consist mainly, or even largely, of facts and happenings. It consists mainly of the storm of thought that is forever flowing through one's head. Be very, very careful what you put into that head, because you will never, ever get it out. Even the woodpecker owes his success to the fact that he uses his head and keeps pecking away until he finishes the job he starts.
