Issues Index | Next => I decided to take it easy tonight and watched a movie, National Treasure. So now it's late and I'm feeling lazy, so here are some comments on treasure somewhat more likely than the one Nicholas Cage was seeking in the film.
A faithful friend is a strong defense, and he that hath found him, hath found a treasure. Nothing can be compared to a faithful friend and no weight of gold and silver is able to countervail the goodness of his fidelity. No one has yet fully realized the wealth of sympathy, kindness, and generosity hidden in the soul of a child. The effort of every true education should be to unlock that treasure... Develop an interest in life as you see it; the people, things, literature, music-the world is so rich, simply throbbing with rich treasures, beautiful souls and interesting people. Forget yourself. Riches do not consist in the possession of treasures, but in the use made of them. Where your pleasure is, there is your treasure: where your treasure, there your heart; where your heart, there your happiness. There comes a time in every rightly constructed boy's life when he has a raging urge to go somewhere and dig for hidden treasure.
