Two notable challenges were completed on this day in history. On this day in 1869 Leland Stanford swung a silver hammer to drive a gold spike to complete the first transcontinental railway. On this day in 1960, USS Triton (SSRN-586), a nuclear-powered submarine, surfaced after an 84-day 36,000 mile circumnavigation of the globe following the route of Magellan - who stayed on the surface, traveled more slowly, and was killed before the trip was over. From one who has trouble actually finishing anything, here's a salute to Completion.
