Quotes of the Day for 19 April 2005 - Blood

What Paul Revere was warning of last night, specifically British troop movement, lead to the battles at Lexington and Concord today. Indeed, this has been an extraordinarily bloody date ever since then. There were the Baltimore Riots of 1861. The Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto struck back against the Nazis on this day in 1943. The FBI attacked the Branch Davidian compound at Waco, Texas in 1993, and finally, in 1995 the bombing in Oklahoma City. We'll have a more uplifting topic tomorrow, it would be hard not to.

     - Thomas Jefferson, 1743 - 1826

Civilization is a stream with banks. The stream is sometimes filled with blood from people killing, stealing, shouting and doing the things historians usually record, while on the banks, unnoticed, people build homes, make love, raise children, sing songs.
     - Will Durant, 1885 - 1981

The great questions of the day will not be settled by means of speeches and majority decisions ... but by iron and blood.
     - Otto von Bismarck, 1815 - 1898
