Quotes of the Day for 20 January 2005 - Inauguration Day

The 20th Amendment to the US Constitution set this as Inauguration Day, every four years starting in 1937 when Franklin Roosevelt was sworn in for his second term. 1945 (Roosevelt) was the only time a president was sworn in for a fourth term. 1953 (Eisenhower) was the first time the ceremony was televised nationally. 1961 (Kennedy) was the first time a Roman Catholic took the office. 1989 (Bush) marked 200 years of presidents, although George Washington hadn't been sworn in until 30 April. That was also the first time in a century that a sitting vice president was inaugurated as president. Since I wasn't invited to any of the balls, let's take a poke or two at the office today.
