In 1875 it was Germany, now it is France.) A pastor, philosopher, musician, and physician missionary, Dr Schweitzer lived 90 years and saved countless lives. Today we have a few comments he made along the way.
A man is ethical only when life, as such, is sacred to him, that of plants and animals as well as that of his fellowman, and when he devotes himself helpfully to all life that is in need of help. Anyone who proposes to do good must not expect people to roll stones out of their way, but must accept their lot calmly, even if people roll a few more upon it. As we acquire more knowledge, things do not become more comprehensible, but more mysterious. Constant kindness can accomplish much. As the sun makes ice melt, kindness causes misunderstanding, mistrust, and hostility to evaporate. Example is not the main thing in influencing others; it's the only thing. Truth has no special time of its own. Its hour is now - always and indeed then most truly when it seems unsuitable to actual circumstances.
