Issues Index | Next => Was it just me, or is it a little disconcerting to be getting back to normal work schedules today after two weeks broken up by holidays and the delightful diversions of the season? I always dread the arrival of Christmas, then when the good food and party atmosphere starts I can't help being swept away. Now I'm looking forward to six weeks without a holiday to get in the way of getting enough work done to pay for it all.
Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand. The sun's rays do not burn until brought to a focus. Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work. The one important thing I have learned over the years is the difference between taking one's work seriously and taking one's self seriously. The first is imperative and the second is disastrous. Derive happiness in oneself from a good day's work, from illuminating the fog that surrounds us. Work joyfully and peacefully, knowing that right thoughts and right efforts will inevitably bring about right results. Genius begins great works; labour alone finishes them.
