Issues Index | Next => Clive Hamilton Staples Lewis was born at Belfast, Ireland on this day in 1898. After his mother's death he abandoned his faith, went to Oxford, went to war, returned to Oxford as a tutor, and became a major Christian author after returning to Christianity in 1929. Millions of kids, including yours truly, grew up with his magical "Chronicles of Narnia" books. His books were signed C. S. Lewis, but he was Jack to family and friends.
